![]() OUTREACH IN ATOTONILCO January 2006
As time drew near for the evening event, young people from the congregation distributed flyers on the streets and the brethren phoned their friends and invited their neighbors. When we arrived at the Plaza there were already many waiting, seated on the benches or standing in front of the stage. Juan, a consummate musician, at ease in front of a microphone, opened with one or two well-known Paraguayan songs, then a song in Guarani, an indigenous language widely spoken in Paraguay. He then began to sing songs that gave the message of the Gospel, explaining either the testimony of the writer or the meaning of the song. The longer he played, the more people drew near to listen. Families, couples, young people heard the Good News presented. Mid-concert, Juan passed the mike to Steve for a Gospel message, which was also well-received. At the end of the concert, the Christians distributed tracts to the crowd and engaged people in conversation. There was a continuous positive response. After the concert, Juan and several others went to the Montgomery's home. Only a few minutes later a knock on the door brought in a reporter from the local television station. He had missed the concert but didn't want to miss Juan. He filmed two songs and a lengthy interview in which Juan spoke clearly of Christ. The entire interview was shown the following day, complete with both songs. The first week in February, Rudy Booher and his family will be here in Atotonilco, along with Rudy's brother, Chris. We have requested the plaza for Saturday the 11th for a concert. Many of you will be receiving this after that date, so we hope to get news about that event to you. Please pray for the on-going fruit of both of these outreaches.
In the evenings there will be evangelistic meetings in the tent, with music, preaching and, on some nights, a movie. Sunday the 19th the clinic will be closed, but the church will hold a Sunday morning evangelistic meeting in the tent. This is a neighborhood with much drug addiction, alcoholism and delinquency. Please intercede for the planning, coordination, presentation and lasting fruit of this event. << Back to From the Field index |
